Georges Island is settled by James Pemberton.
1628
Pemberton, who formerly settled at Hull (then Nantasket), subsequently has his claim to the island question. However the General Court declares it “to be his propriety” in 1652. The island, later named later for merchant Captain John George, is subsequently purchased by Samuel Greenleaf, then by Elisha Leavitt in 1765.
